“I first saw this photograph by Jake Walters in a feature about the Michael Clark Dance Company in a recent issue of Artforum. At first glance I thought of a perfume ad; looking again I noticed the four feet and thought of the animality that is an important dimension of Bataille’s base materialism. It was this ambiguity that enticed me.”
